Having arrived in Cheltenham in the late sixties to study architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art & Design, Mike pursued a career as a qualified Architect with a number of local private practices. Although he has painted and drawn as a hobby for as long as he can remember he has in the last sixteen years worked freelance combining his three main interests of architecture, theatre scenic design and painting.
He has always enjoyed the challenge of working both in fine pen & ink wash and on a larger scale murals, three dimensional sculptures & trompe l’oeil etc. He has for many years throughout Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties exhibited his ink & watercolour Cotswold scenes & regency balconies etc.
For some years now Mike has also specialised in combining his love of the childhood memories of the English seaside, his traditional architectural drawing skills and his sense of humour, to produce a series of paintings and drawings of Beach huts & light houses. Over the last few years he has developed a unique style of brightly coloured acrylic deep canvases which are carefully detailed with pen and ink freehand sketching on top.
